Richard L. Dorman Collection of Narrow Gauge Images

The collection is devoted to the narrow gauge railroads of Colorado and New Mexico, comprising some 16,000 black and white images and 6,000 color slides. This acquisition places the Friends' library and archive among the most important such institutions in the country, if not the world. The Board of Directors mandated that funds needed for accession, storage, scanning, and publication of guides and catalogs must not impose a burden on regular operating monies. In short, we must raise money for those activities. We envision funds coming from those members who might not be as active in the restoration work in Chama and Antonito.

Richard Dorman spent 30 years collecting photos of the narrow gauge railroads of Colorado and New Mexico, he published several books out of the collection.  A group of dedicated volunteers from the Friends have catalogued, organized, and scanned the originals into a dedicated computer system.  The basic scanning is completed and the original photos are in permanent, archival, storage.   A searchable database is being compiled which will allow interested parties to retrieve photographs of interest.

At this time, all the D&RG(W) photographs are available but the RGS photographs are still being worked on.  They will be posted as they are completed.
